Researchers at AmericanFortress proposed ZKPoSP, a cryptographic system designed to protect Bitcoin and other blockchain wallets from quantum attacks while preserving compatibility with existing addresses. The approach replaces elliptic curve signatures with zero-knowledge proofs that verify wallet ownership through seed phrases, eliminating the need for users to migrate funds to new addresses. Prototype testing showed proof generation times of 12 to 13 seconds and verification times of 9 to 10 milliseconds, though the system has not yet been adopted by any blockchain network and would require broad adoption by developers, wallet providers, exchanges, miners, and users to be deployed.
