Ronin gaming sidechain migrates to Ethereum OP Stack Layer 2 on May 12, reducing RON inflation from 20% to below 1% after historic $625M bridge hack in 2022.

Ronin will transition from an independent gaming sidechain to an Ethereum Layer 2 network built on the OP Stack on May 12, ending four years of standalone operation that began in 2021. The shift represents a major architectural change for the gaming-focused network, which was hit by a roughly $625 million bridge exploit in 2022, among the largest cross-chain bridge hacks in DeFi history. The migration is expected to introduce around 10 hours of downtime during the transition.
The move carries significant tokenomics implications. Annual RON inflation will drop from over 20% to below 1% following the migration, a substantial reduction in token supply growth. By adopting the OP Stack framework, Ronin aims to improve security, scalability, and economic sustainability, moving away from its proprietary chain infrastructure.
The migration marks Ronin's attempt to rebuild confidence in its network architecture following the 2022 bridge incident. Whether this Layer 2 transition will attract renewed developer and user activity, and how quickly the network will resume full throughput after downtime, remain to be observed post-launch.
