Zcash developers are targeting November 5 for the NU7 upgrade, which would reduce block confirmation times to 25 seconds from 75 seconds, enabling private payments to be processed roughly three times faster. The upgrade would set aside approximately 60% of transaction fees beginning now, with those funds scheduled to return as mining rewards starting February 2031, while preserving Zcash's overall issuance schedule by reducing per-block rewards and extending the halving interval. The proposal received broad support in community voting, with 98.9% of roughly 2.4 million ZEC participating backing the preservation of Zcash's existing halving schedule, and a final activation decision is due October 20.
