Brave launched BAT roadmap 4.0 featuring a unified wallet, stablecoin payment protocol (BravePay), and creator contribution system for AI content.

Brave released BAT roadmap 4.0 on July 9, introducing a unified Brave Wallet that combines traditional payment methods with self-custodied crypto assets, alongside a new stablecoin payment protocol called BravePay. The roadmap also includes planned payment cards for Brave Rewards that enable daily spending with BAT reward returns, and a creator contribution protocol designed to provide micro-royalty compensation when AI products use creator content.
The update positions BAT within a broader "transactional attention economy" meant to address challenges from artificial intelligence and cashless payments. BravePay establishes a privacy-focused payment layer intended to support autonomous agent payments through protocols like x402 and the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP) within the browser. Revenue from Brave Wallet features, payment cards, and BravePay will partly fund BAT repurchases to support user rewards and ecosystem growth.
The roadmap signals a structural shift: Brave plans to phase out traditional advertising notifications by end of 2026, moving instead toward personalized offer walls and a new loyalty program. How quickly these features will deploy, their uptake among users and creators, and the specifics of AI content micropayment mechanics remain unclear.
