Bybit plans European super-app combining stocks and derivatives
DeFi & Yields ·
Bybit is pursuing a MiFID license in Austria to launch a single platform offering tokenized stocks, derivatives, banking-like services and spot crypto trading to European users.
The move was confirmed by Bybit CEO Ben Zhou, who described the effort as an expansion beyond crypto-only trading into a broader financial app aimed at European customers, according to CoinDesk. A MiFID license, which governs investment services across the European Union, would let Bybit legally offer regulated products such as tokenized equities and derivatives alongside its existing crypto business under one regulatory umbrella.
The plan folds several product lines into a single app: tokenized stocks, derivatives trading, banking-like features, and spot crypto. That combination would let users move between traditional asset exposure and crypto holdings without switching platforms, a structural shift from Bybit's current crypto-exchange model toward something closer to a diversified financial services app.
The super-app push comes alongside a separate product launch. Bybit has rolled out Odds, a new derivatives product built for trading price predictions, according to Bybit's own announcement. While Odds is a distinct product, its launch signals continued expansion of Bybit's derivatives lineup around the same period as the European super-app plans.
Four distinct sources are covering the cluster of announcements, pointing to the Austria licensing pursuit, the broader super-app concept, and the Odds launch as related but separate developments rather than a single unified release.
What remains unresolved is the timeline for regulatory approval in Austria and when, or whether, the tokenized stocks and banking-like services will actually go live for users. Also unclear is how the newly launched Odds product fits into the eventual super-app structure, and whether other European jurisdictions will require separate licensing beyond the MiFID application.
