Galaxy launches Galaxy Onchain Financing Rate (GOFR), an institutional Bitcoin lending product with $100M in Galaxy capital backing collateral management and operations.
DeFi & Yields ·
Galaxy has launched the Galaxy Onchain Financing Rate (GOFR), an institutional Bitcoin lending product designed to address barriers that have kept large financial entities away from decentralized finance. The service allows institutional clients to deposit Bitcoin, which Galaxy then deploys onchain while managing operations, collateral, risk, and rate-setting throughout the process. Galaxy is backing the product with $100 million in capital, standing as collateral support for the arrangement.
The product targets structural obstacles institutions have faced in DeFi, including round-the-clock market operations, automatic liquidation mechanisms, and compliance frameworks not yet adapted to onchain activity. By taking on these operational and risk management functions itself, Galaxy aims to make institutional participation in decentralized lending viable without requiring clients to navigate these complexities independently.
The mechanics of how clients access GOFR, the terms governing the arrangement, and performance details remain undisclosed pending further communications from Galaxy's lending team.
