Hyperlane launches Metastable, a 1:1 stablecoin clearing protocol, with $20M+ in pilot conversions.
DeFi & Yields ·
Hyperlane has launched Metastable, a protocol designed to enable 1:1 conversions between stablecoins across different blockchains, with over $20 million in pilot conversions already processed. The infrastructure allows users to deposit any stablecoin and receive their desired stablecoin on any supported chain in a single transaction, removing the need for separate bridging, swapping, and gas acquisition steps.
The protocol addresses fragmentation created by the proliferation of branded stablecoins entering the market. Rather than requiring users to navigate multiple conversion routes with slippage and liquidity challenges, Metastable maintains reserves of various stablecoins on each network and routes conversions through a unified clearing layer. Hyperlane built the system drawing on four years of experience operating across 150+ chains and processing over $12 billion in token transfers.
The extent to which Metastable will achieve true stablecoin fungibility depends on adoption rates among new stablecoin issuers and the depth of reserves the protocol maintains across chains and denominations as more branded stablecoins launch.
