MetaMask launches Money Account, a self-custodial product offering up to 4% APY on stablecoin deposits with integrated card for global spending.
DeFi & Yields ·
MetaMask has launched Money Account, a self-custodial product offering up to 4% variable APY on deposits of mUSD, the protocol's dollar-backed stablecoin. The account integrates trading, peer-to-peer transfers across networks, and spending via a MetaMask Card accepted at hundreds of millions of Mastercard merchants globally, with cardholders earning up to 3% cashback. Funds deposited to Money Account automatically convert to mUSD and begin accruing yield immediately, with no lockup periods, opening fees, or minimum balance requirements.
The account operates on Monad, MetaMask's home network, with mUSD held in regulated custody and backed 1:1 by US dollars and short-term Treasury bills through Bridge, a Stripe company. Security is managed by Veda and Steakhouse Financial infrastructure. Users can fund Money Account by depositing existing stablecoins including USDC, USDT, and DAI without conversion fees, purchasing mUSD directly via card or payment apps, or converting other assets at standard rates.
The rollout began on MetaMask Mobile (v8.0.0 or higher) with broader availability within days. The APY is variable and not guaranteed, and the product carries smart contract, liquidity, and protocol risks that could in extreme cases result in partial or total loss of funds. MetaMask notes that Money Account is not a bank or insured deposit product.
