Uniswap token jumps 30% on SEC exemption news
DeFi & Yields ·
UNI climbed to a ten-month peak near $9.20 after regulators opened a new path for on-chain trading of tokenized stocks.
The governance token for the Uniswap protocol added roughly 30% in value, pushing it to almost $9.20, a level not seen in ten months, according to cryptopotato.com. The move followed the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's release of an Innovation Exemption, a temporary allowance permitting certain tokenized equities to trade on-chain.
Market commentary suggests the rally owes as much to tone as to policy text. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce reportedly wrote in a comment letter that fully decentralized systems run by autonomous software would not require such an exemption in the first place, a remark framed as more consequential than the formal announcement itself. That interpretation implies permissioned liquidity pools built on Uniswap v4 could offer a compliant route for U.S. participants and assets that still need regulatory cover.
The gain came alongside a wider rebound across digital assets. Bitcoin moved back above $78,000 and Ethereum returned above $2,500, while several other tokens also posted double-digit moves over the same 24-hour window, even as a related legislative effort, the CLARITY Act, failed to advance and U.S. interest rates ticked higher.
Traders are now weighing how far the move can extend. Some chart-based projections point to $11 as a near-term marker if Bitcoin holds its footing, with a further target near $12.75 cited as an area where a long-term trendline and a large sell order could slow momentum. Others see a breakout above the $10 mark as a signal for a much larger advance, though the token's Relative Strength Index has climbed into extreme overbought territory, a condition historically associated with short-term pullbacks.
Adding a note of caution, wallet-tracking data cited via x.com shows a large UNI holder offloaded 600,000 tokens for roughly $5.1 million in USDT and moved an additional 100,000 UNI onto an exchange, a pattern that could foreshadow renewed selling pressure. Further movement from that wallet, visible through app.nansen.ai, along with whether Bitcoin's footing above $78,000 holds, will likely shape whether UNI extends toward the higher price targets or pulls back from its overbought reading.
