DefiLlama launches RWA protocol and chain breakdowns showing $29B in onchain real-world assets with focus on actual DeFi deployment.
RWA & Tokenization ·
DefiLlama has added protocol and chain breakdowns to its real-world asset (RWA) tracking pages, introducing a metric called DeFi Active TVL that measures what portion of an RWA's market capitalization is actually deployed into decentralized finance applications. The announcement comes as over $29B in RWAs exist onchain, raising questions about deployment concentration and actual usage patterns across the ecosystem.
DeFi Active TVL isolates the capital from RWAs that flows into live DeFi protocols rather than counting all onchain RWA balances uniformly. This distinction matters because it separates tokens that exist onchain from those actively earning yield or participating in DeFi mechanics. The new breakdowns allow users to see which protocols and blockchains host the most actively deployed RWA liquidity.
The metric does not yet clarify which specific RWA projects or DeFi applications dominate this deployment, nor does it indicate whether concentration is high or distributed across multiple venues. Whether this tooling will drive material changes in RWA allocation or simply provide visibility into existing patterns remains to be seen.
