RWA deposits in DeFi grew from $2.33B to $7.44B in 2024, but represent only 2% of the $345B in tokenized assets, suggesting significant untapped potential as the sector matures.
RWA & Tokenization ·
Real-world asset deposits flowing into decentralized finance platforms reached $7.44 billion during 2024, up from $2.33 billion, reflecting growing on-chain integration of tokenized Treasuries, credit instruments, and other traditional assets. These deposits are being actively borrowed against and generating yield within DeFi protocols, signaling functional usage beyond passive holdings.
The scale of this activity, however, remains modest relative to the broader tokenization landscape. Roughly $345 billion in tokenized assets exist across blockchains, meaning current DeFi deployment represents less than 3 percent of all tokenized real-world assets. The disparity suggests that the majority of issued RWA tokens are not yet participating in yield-generating or lending mechanisms.
Whether dormant tokenized assets will migrate into active DeFi use remains unresolved. The trajectory indicates maturation of the sector's infrastructure, but sustained growth and higher deployment rates are not guaranteed. Monitoring whether the gap between total tokenized supply and deployed capital narrows will be key to assessing whether RWA-DeFi integration becomes structural or plateaus.
