Ethereum delays Glamsterdam fork on Hoodi testnet after ChainSecurity identifies compatibility risks in EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 gas changes.

The Glamsterdam fork planned for Ethereum's Hoodi testnet has been postponed following a security review that identified compatibility risks in two proposed improvements, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. According to researcher Toni Wahrstätter, the review by ChainSecurity flagged potential issues with how the proposals handle gas mechanics and contract behavior.
The two EIPs introduce gas changes that could trigger failures in smart contracts relying on the assumption that gas costs move in only one direction, and may alter how transactions behave when internal calls fail. ChainSecurity identified 13 real-world cases where these risks apply. Developers are currently assessing whether modifications to the upgrade specifications are necessary before proceeding.
The delay underscores the iterative nature of testnet upgrades, where edge cases and interaction patterns with existing contracts must be validated before broader deployment. It remains unclear when the fork may be rescheduled or what specific changes, if any, will be made to the affected proposals.
