Ethereum L1 handled 203.9 million transactions during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 68.4 percent increase from the prior year, according to Token Terminal data. The network's average transaction throughput climbed to 25.9 transactions per second, a fresh record. Concurrent with these gains, the share of ETH locked in staking reached 32 percent, and the count of addresses holding ETH surpassed 312.1 million.
Not all metrics moved upward in tandem. The cohort of monthly active participants contracted 30 percent from the prior quarter to 9.2 million. Aggregate onchain transaction fees grew 31.6 percent to $52.5 million, while ETH burn revenue more than doubled to $17.1 million year-over-year.
The ecosystem's tokenized asset base averaged $203.1 billion in value over the quarter, with stablecoins comprising roughly $176.8 billion and tokenized funds accounting for approximately $20.8 billion. Whether these volume gains and growing asset tokenization will sustain remains an open question given the simultaneous contraction in active participants.
