BitGo integrates Stacks' sBTC bridge, enabling its 1.2M institutional users to convert BTC to sBTC directly within their existing custody setup.
DeFi & Yields ·
BitGo has integrated the Stacks sBTC bridge, allowing its approximately 1.2M users to convert Bitcoin to sBTC and back within their existing custody infrastructure. The integration comes ahead of Stacks' self-custodial Bitcoin Staking launch, which will enable holders to earn native BTC yield while retaining control of their assets.
The move addresses a significant friction point in Bitcoin finance: institutional BTC holders have largely avoided decentralized finance applications due to custody concerns. By embedding sBTC conversion directly into BitGo's custody platform, the integration removes the need for users to interact with external bridges or wrapped token mechanisms, lowering barriers to entry for institutions seeking yield opportunities without abandoning trusted custody arrangements.
What remains unclear is the scope of adoption among BitGo's user base and whether other major custodians will pursue similar integrations. The integration's success will depend on demand for sBTC yield products and whether self-custodial staking on Stacks attracts sufficient institutional participation.
