Coinbase adds Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin across three networks
DeFi & Yields ·
The exchange is integrating RLUSD for retail, Prime, and Exchange users, with support spanning the XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Base.
Ripple confirmed that its RLUSD stablecoin is coming to Coinbase, according to a report from The Block. The integration covers Coinbase's retail platform as well as its institutional-facing Prime and Exchange products, and it extends across three distinct networks: the XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Base.
The multi-chain rollout means RLUSD holders will not be confined to a single settlement layer. Base, Coinbase's own Ethereum Layer 2, is built to batch transactions off mainnet and settle them back to Ethereum, which keeps fees low while preserving the underlying security of Ethereum. Adding RLUSD to that network ties the stablecoin directly into Coinbase's broader push to make Base a settlement layer for everything from retail trading to institutional finance.
Independent tracking corroborates the move, with RLUSD already detected live on Coinbase across both Base and Ethereum, matching the scope Ripple described. The listing arrives as Base continues to expand its stablecoin and payments infrastructure more broadly, a direction underscored by other recent additions to the network, including identity verification tools for airdrops and governance and account-abstraction upgrades aimed at cutting transaction costs.
Bringing RLUSD onto Prime and Exchange, not just the retail app, signals an effort to make the stablecoin usable for institutional-size flows rather than only consumer transactions. Pairing that with XRP Ledger support keeps RLUSD anchored to its original issuance network while the Ethereum and Base integrations extend its reach into Coinbase's wider Layer 2 ecosystem, where other dollar-denominated assets and payment rails are already concentrated.
Not yet detailed is a specific rollout timeline for when RLUSD trading or custody will go live on each platform, nor what liquidity or volume levels Coinbase expects once the stablecoin is fully integrated. Also unclear is whether additional networks beyond XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Base will be added later, and how this listing fits alongside Coinbase's existing stablecoin partnerships on Base.
