Onchain real-world assets reached $34.18 billion by mid-September 2026, marking an 85.2% gain since the start of the year, according to Binance Research's "The RWA Activation Era" report. Bonds and money market funds dominated the market at $18.29 billion, while tokenized equities surged 390.4% year to date; these two categories together captured more than three-quarters of new value added in the space.
The tokenization effort remains nascent. Binance Research estimates that roughly 0.01% of the underlying asset base has been converted to onchain form. Of the RWA value already deployed, about 12% is actively used in liquidity pools, lending protocols, and collateral arrangements across decentralized finance platforms.
The next wave of growth hinges on two factors: increasing the quantity of assets brought onchain and ensuring those assets become functional across DeFi infrastructure. The mechanics of deeper integration remain the principal open question for the sector's continued maturation.
