Gate.io captured 8.1% of the real-world asset perpetual futures market in August, processing $64.8B in volume—a sharp rise from its 2.6% share two months prior, and the fastest growth rate among centralized exchanges, placing it third overall by market position. Weekly volume climbed steadily from $2.4B in early June to a peak of $20.7B during the week of August 17, representing an 8.6x expansion over that span. According to CoinMarketCap's quarterly report, semiconductor tokenized contracts were the primary driver: SanDisk and SK hynix futures accounted for 64% of Gate's total August volume, with the exchange capturing 16.5% and 14.2% of those respective contracts' volumes across 19 trading venues—substantially above its platform-wide RWA perp market share.
Gate listed 405 RWA tickers in August, exceeding any other venue, though concentration remained high: 88% of its volume originated from just the top ten contracts. Whether this growth sustains beyond August, and whether semiconductor derivatives will continue dominating activity, remains unclear as the market evolves.
