Only 13.9% of $31.16B in active onchain RWA capital is deployed in DeFi, with Morpho Blue, Aave V3, and Pendle leading adoption, while RWA perps attract $20B in open interest.

Onchain real-world asset markets hold $34.44B in total AUM, with $31.16B classified as active, yet only $4.33B flows into decentralized finance protocols. This 13.9% deployment rate reveals a significant gap between RWA tokenization and actual DeFi integration. Morpho Blue leads protocol adoption with $768.1M, followed by Kamino Lend ($423.1M), Aave V3 ($417.2M), Grove ($394.7M), and Pendle V2 ($351.5M)—collectively representing over half of all DeFi-deployed RWA capital at $2.35B.
Trading activity tells a different story. RWA perpetual futures markets show $19.82B in open interest, while daily spot volume reaches $47.50B, indicating robust leveraged and spot trading alongside the muted lending deployment. These metrics measure distinct market segments and cannot be directly compared, yet the divergence points to an emerging pattern: traders are engaging RWA instruments at scale while protocols struggle to unlock collateral utility and yield opportunities within DeFi.
Regulatory constraints, asset liquidity, and collateral eligibility restrictions limit which tokenized assets can circulate freely in decentralized markets. The competitive advantage may ultimately belong to protocols that convert tokenized assets into functional financial primitives rather than those that simply mint RWA tokens, though this remains an open question as the infrastructure matures.
