DTCC's tokenization platform goes live with 34 securities at launch

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation has switched on a tokenization offering covering large-cap Russell 1000 names, exchange-traded funds and U.S. Treasuries.
According to a report from WuBlockchain, DTCC's own site now confirms the Tokenization Service is operational, with an initial roster of 34 eligible instruments spanning select large-cap equities from the Russell 1000, ETFs, and government debt. Each digital token is fully collateralized, with underlying shares or bonds held in custody at the Depository Trust Company, meaning issuance is matched one-to-one against real assets rather than synthetic exposure.
Holders of these tokens retain identical legal standing and ownership claims as traditional securities holders, a design choice meant to avoid introducing a separate, lesser class of digital claim. The tokens can also move between approved DTC-registered wallets at any hour, removing the settlement-window constraints that typically govern equity and bond transfers in conventional markets.
At launch, the infrastructure runs across two networks: Canton Network and a private Besu-based chain operated by DTCC itself. Expansion is already mapped out, with Stellar and Circle's Arc network slated to join the service in 2027, which would widen the set of blockchain environments where these tokenized instruments can be held and transferred. Background on the Arc network's broader positioning in this space is detailed separately in coverage from Leviathan News.
The move places a core piece of U.S. market infrastructure directly into onchain settlement rails, rather than leaving tokenization efforts to third-party platforms layered on top of traditional custody. Coverage of the rollout has appeared across at least two outlets tracking the same announcement, pointing to the live status of the service and its initial technical footprint.
Still unclear is how trading volume and institutional adoption will develop in the near term, what fee or access requirements apply to wallet registration with DTC, and whether additional securities will be added to the 34-asset list before the 2027 network expansion. DTCC has not detailed a timeline for broader issuer participation beyond the current large-cap and Treasury selections.
